We're always looking for people who embody optimism and can invest their time in the life of a young person who needs support. If you would like learn more about Foster Progress’s work of helping youth from foster care achieve their college dreams, please check out this introductory training to answer many of your questions about what it’s like to mentor with Foster Progress. Afterward, fill out the Mentor Application and we will be in touch!

Mentor Requirements: 

  • College degree

  • Mentors must be employed unless there are special circumstances

  • Good references

  • Clean background check

Application Process: 

  1. View the Introductory Training (also shown above)

  2. Complete the Mentor application

  3. Interview with a Foster Progress staff person

  4. Send of copy of your driver’s license and car insurance (if you plan to drive)

    • Having a car, drivers license, and car insurance is helpful but not a requirement

  5. Reference check

  6. Background check

  7. Complete Foster Progress Training

  8. Complete Mandatory Reporter Training

  9. Get matched with a Foster Progress youth and begin mentoring sessions

Mentor Training Provided: 

  • Training 1 - Foster Care and the Youth it Serves

  • Training 2 - Mentoring for College Success

  • Training 3 - Financial Aid for Youth from Foster Care

  • Mandatory Reporter training

Ongoing Commitment: 

  • Quarterly mentor support calls

  • Weekly mentoring sessions with youth in your community
